For more than three decades, I’ve traveled independently across the world, camera in hand, collecting not just photographs but emotions. Today, every ornament I create begins with those firsthand experiences because I believe the places we visit deserve to be remembered exactly as they made us feel.
One Painting in Venice Changed Everything
Some travelers collect passport stamps. Others collect recipes, wine bottles, or local crafts. I discovered early that local artwork tells the story of a destination better than almost anything else.
While wandering through Venice, I stumbled across an artist painting directly beside one of the city’s winding canals. Instead of purchasing something mass-produced from a souvenir shop, I brought home a painting created by someone who lived there and understood the city’s rhythm.
Years later, that artwork still hangs on my wall.
It reminds me of narrow alleyways that seemed to lead nowhere before suddenly opening into lively piazzas. It reminds me of colorful reflections dancing across the canals and evenings when the city felt almost suspended in time.

Thirty Years of Independent Travel Changed the Way I See the World
Travel has been one of the greatest teachers in my life.
Over the past 30-plus years, I’ve explored more than 75 countries across six continents, often traveling independently with nothing more than careful planning, curiosity, and a camera around my neck.
Independent travel teaches you to slow down. You notice details most visitors miss. You wait for morning light to illuminate a castle. You wander one extra street because something catches your eye. You sit quietly in a plaza watching daily life unfold instead of rushing toward the next attraction.
Those moments rarely appear on bucket lists. Yet they’re the ones that stay with you forever. Every destination has its own personality. Some greet you with dramatic mountain peaks. Others whisper through quiet villages or bustling markets.
I’ve learned that every place deserves patience before you can truly understand it. That philosophy eventually became the heart of my artwork.
My Camera Became My Sketchbook
After bringing home artwork from Venice, another tradition naturally followed. I began photographing everything. Not simply famous landmarks. I photographed the morning mist rising over mountain valleys. The colorful shutters on forgotten side streets. Tiny cafés where locals gathered before work. Unexpected reflections after summer rain. The light just before sunset.
Over time, my camera evolved into something much more personal than a travel accessory. It became a journal. Every photograph represented a memory attached to a feeling.
Looking back through thousands of images today, I can instantly remember the conversations, weather, excitement, and peaceful moments surrounding each photograph.
Those emotions matter just as much as the destination itself.

That realization inspired me to transform my own travel photography into rich oil-painting style artwork. Each ornament begins exactly the same way.
